Updating your kitchen cabinets

The kitchen has become the gathering place in many homes, whether for parties, families, homework or just a cup of coffee or to relax. Old outdated cabinets can make the room feel dull and dismal. Interior Paint colors and your moods

On a normal basis we have many reasons for feeling anxious or even angry, so why add paint to the equation? Painting the interior of your home is something that should bring you joy and comfort when you walk in, but be aware that certain colors are known for causing anxiety or depression. It does not mean that you can not use the colors that you like but just be reserved in your choices.

Let’s look at the different colors that make the list and what reactions they cause.

Yellow: One of the colors that seems least likely to be an issue is Yellow. However, tests have shown that yellow in large amounts make people feel angry, stressed or even aggressive.

Pink: Pink is a color that has proven to have a very calming effect; prison studies have confirmed this. When used in small amounts in a smaller bedroom, pink would be a good interior color.

Blue: Many shades of Blue seem to be calming and widely accepted by everyone. However, some darker blues may be overwhelming when used throughout an entire room and may make a person anxious, while some lighter blues can make a person feel a sense of cold when used in rooms with very little light.

Black: Black many times denotes negative feelings of depression or a lack of being in control.

Brown: Dark Browns in large amounts, especially on interior walls, make a person feel depressed. Lighter Browns add a more calming, earthy feel to a home.

Red: Red is a fascinating color in that it can make you excited, feel stimulated, or even energized. As much as this works great for interiors, it also must be used in moderation as it can also make a person feel in danger or even angry.

As you can see there are many different ways that interior paint colors can affect your mood. Knowing these concepts ahead of time can save you the time and the expense of having to repaint rooms afterwards. As pet owners and parents of small children we know the struggle of keeping the walls clean.   • A recent trend with painting manufacturers is to add Teflon into the paint, making the finished surface easier to clean and less likely for foreign objects to stick to the paint.  It is more expensive but another option you can discuss with your professional when choosing the best recommendations for your home.

How To Create A Color Scheme For Your Home

Choosing a color scheme for your home may seem a difficult task but this is doable when you know how to simplify things. Here are some tips that can help you pick the best paint colors for your house.

Find A Base Color

Start with just one room, which ideally serves as a focal point in your home or the first room that people see when they enter your house. Once you have chosen the room, consider the colors of the items there. Find one color that you love and use this as your base color.

Build Your Palette

You can start building your palette once you designate your base color. Using a color wheel and a paint deck, create three color schemes: complementary, monochrome and neutral. A complementary color scheme includes colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. A monochrome palette will have several colors that are similar to your base color. Use the paint deck to find the base then choose three colors around it to produce a balanced palette. A neutral scheme allows your base color to stand out as a dynamic focal point.

Try Paint Colors On First

Have you ever gotten stuck thinking about what color to paint your kitchen?

Now you don’t have to worry. With Sherwin Williams Color Visualizer, you can see how the exterior and interior of your home will look with any paint color. You can try on colors before you paint!

One of our favorite features is the ability to feel like a part of the great Fixer Upper show. In an instant either your great room or an inspirational room can be transformed with color in an instant!

In addition to Sherwin Williams Color Visualizer there are other useful apps that we highly suggest too! Check out, Sherwin-Williams Color Snap – This app for the iPhone, Blackberry and Android allows you to take an image of a color and match it to one of the company’s more than thousands paint colors. You can then browse Sherwin-Williams’ entire inventory to create a custom palette that complements your captured color. Detailed information about the palette you create can be saved to a library or shared via Facebook and email.

Benjamin Moore Color Capture – The app from this company favors iPhone and iPad users, but it also makes a version for those with an Android. The iPhone version allows photo matching, sharing and creating of a custom palette using Benjamin Moore paint colors, while the Android app allows only for photo matching and searching of the company’s inventory.

Behr ColorSmart – If you have an iPhone, iPad or Android, you can download this app to find, coordinate, and preview a Behr paint color. It also offers photo matching and the ability to preview colors in different rooms and styles using touch-and-tap technology. You can save colors, room images, and calculations to your account and share via Facebook and twitter.

All three of these apps, naturally, allow you to find a store near you at which you can pick up your new paint colors or seek further help with choosing the right colors for your rooms. All are free and work on both Mac and PC.

In terms of online paint color visualizers for your desktop or laptop, each of these companies offers one. Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer, Behr Paint Your Place and Benjamin Moore Personal Color Viewer all allow you to upload a photo of the room you plan to paint, then apply different paint colors to the walls with a simple drag and drop action. The Sherwin-Williams and Behr tools require you to download the program, plus install other programs such as Flash and Java, while the Benjamin Moore features can be used both online and through the downloaded program.
