As a consummate DYI individual I always try to do everything myself. As with all things in life experience quickly taught me that hiring a professional painter not only saved me time and money but the headaches of frequent trips to the store for things I didn’t know I needed or had forgotten. Whether your home is one that you have lived in for a long time or one you just purchased, you need a knowledgeable professional to guide you through the journey. Don’t get me wrong, I still do small projects but never a whole house.

To decide if it is cost effective to do the project yourself, sit down and determine the supplies you will need. The end of the year is a good time to look back and think about what you’ve done and what you’ve learned. Exterior home painters are no different. Interior Exterior PaintingYes, it’s true. Color has a psychological effect on your mood. There is an actual area of study that focuses solely on this and it’s called color psychology. Simply defined it is the study of hues ‘as a determinant of human behavior’. Color can have both positive and negative effects on individuals. Some will elicit happiness, others anger, and still others depression.

While there is no question that color can influence a person’s mood, there are a variety of factors that must be taken into consideration. For example, age, gender and culture all play a role in how a color is perceived by the individual. Some studies have shown that men find women more attractive when they are wearing the color red! Research also confirms that warm colors may invoke more of a tendency to make a spontaneous purchase! It is obvious that color psychology is complex, interesting and useful.

But what does this have to do with exterior, interior and commercial painting? Well, a lot actually. After all, when you undertake a painting project the aim is to improve the overall presentation of a room, home or business. It could generally be accepted that the outcome should be one that fosters happiness and pride. So, more than a little thought should go into the colors you choose for any paint job.

Remember that red and orange are stimulating. These are hues that must be used after much reflection and thought. The Right Paint Will Help to Prevent Mildew & Mold on Your Home’s Exterior

However, it is more commonly found in areas that have humid summer weather. So, in areas of the country that are prone to humidity, homeowners should make it a habit to routinely inspect their home by doing a monthly ‘walk-around’.

If you do discover mildew don’t be too disturbed. Chances are with monthly inspections you have caught it early. Why is it important to remove mildew (and mold) from your home’s exterior? Both are removable but must be done with caution. No matter which you are trying to destroy, the first thing to remember is you should wear protective clothing. That includes the use of gloves and goggles. It is best to ensure you have covered all parts of your body as well. There are commercial mildew removers available at most stores. If you are an environmentalist who does not like using chemicals, then you can make your own mildew-remover solution.

Removing mold from your home may require the intervention of a specialist who is knowledgeable in this area. Mold can creep into cracks and hidden places in your home which makes it difficult to ensure that it is completely eliminated.

It is always a good idea to purchase mildew-resistant paint the next time you want to freshen the exterior of your home. Examples of these are enamel-based and linseed oil-based paints. For instance, we have some great advice for the weekend handyman or handywoman who is going to tackle an indoor painting project. You’ve decided to paint the wall (or walls). People tend to think that it’s an elementary task. However, there are little things you should think of and attend to before actually popping open the paint can. In other words, a few moments of pre-preparation will make the job go much faster and more smoothly. Then you really will be able to pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

Clear the walls. Take down any hangings or fixtures even if they don’t appear to be near the area to be painted. Accidents happen all too often and are more likely to when you are not prepared!

Inspect the wall for nicks and imperfections. Now is the time to make repairs prior to beginning the painting process. If there are cracks in the paint or you have mold and mildew, attending to these issues before dipping the brush in paint will make the job go more quickly and result in a nicer presentation.

Now wash the walls. That’s right, walls get dirty just like floors and windows. Think about the variety of cooking smells that waft through the house, or odors that are not that enticing. Some of them leave a residue that dulls the color of the walls and makes them look and feel dirty. If you are not one to wash the walls, there are service companies available to do it for you.

Tape, tape, tape. One thing is true about paint – it drips. When you dip the brush in the paint, there’s always a chance that paint splatter can happen.
